However, just like it’s the case with just about any Windows Preview build, new features and improvements are not the only things it brings. Various issues and problems are a common sight in Windows 10 Preview builds, and build 14986 is not an exception. Microsoft already released a list of known issues in the build, but the situation is slightly different in real life. We’ve wandered around Microsoft’s forums to find problems reported by actual users. In this article, we’re going to tell you what bothers Insiders in Preview build 14986, so you can know what to expect if you haven’t installed the build yet.

Windows 10 Preview build 14986 reported issues

The biggest problem in build 14986 (just like in any other Preview build) is the installation issue. In fact, various installation problems hit Insiders who were trying to install the new build. Insiders are facing various error codes and messages. Some of them are:

“Trying to install 14986 but it keeps failing at 12% after the initial reboot.  I have disconnected all USB devices and also the internet during this stage to no avail.” “Windows 10 Insider Preview 14986 (rs_prerelease) –Error 0xc1900201“

Luckily, there’s a solution for the installation issues. Microsoft’s employee Jason [MS] recently posted a thread on the forums, where he explained that Insiders facing the installation problem can solve it by running a troubleshooter. You can download the troubleshooter from this link. Even those Insiders who managed to install the new build have their share of problems. A few Insiders reported on the forums that they’re unable to access Google in Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer. Here’s what one of them said : Unfortunately, no one had a proper solution for this problem. Microsoft introduced a few Cortana improvements with build 14986. However, one user complained on the forums that he’s unable to use some of the Cortana’s freshest features, more precisely the ability to restart the computer, and adjust the volume. This thread had no answers at the time of writing this article, so we can’t confirm if there’s a solution. In case you’re experiencing the same problem, we can advise you to check out our article about Cortana problems in Windows 10, but once again, we can’t guarantee any of our workarounds will solve the problem. DId Microsoft change it’s mind or is there a setting I need to change to allow Cortana to do this? Or is this functionality reserved for Cortana on WIndows Phones? I was really excited to hear about this new functionality and am now disappointed that it isn’t working. I have confirmed that I am on 14986 build – your help is appreciated.” That’s about it for today’s report. As you can see, this build is far less troublesome than some of the previous releases. So, not only does it bring a huge number of new features, but also causes just a few problems, which is great, and we should give Microsoft credit for that.
