Thanks to the addition of the Wake feature on LAN, Surface devices physically connected will be easier to update and maintain. There are several tools that help with connecting Surface devices. These are the Ethernet Adapter for Surface, or the Surface Dock or Docking Station.
Multiple Surface devices are supported
There are several Surface models that are compatible with the new Wake feature for LAN. These are Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book. The aforementioned accessories and these Surface models can be paired in any combination users want. Microsoft is currently offered something called the Surface Tools for IT. Basically, it’s Microsoft’s way of helping out its enterprise level Surface consumers by offering them the means to manage Surface units. One of the tools that can be found in this toolbox is the Wake for LAN feature, which has 732 KB and comes with the name SurfaceWOL.msi.
Facilitating the feature
Microsoft has specified that users will have to manually create a registry key so that devices can properly assess Wake’s function on LAN support. That being said, it is still possible and functional for them to install the package on its own. Editing the registry key rounds up the process and gives it a more robust resolve. In order for enterprises to use Wake on LAN support, they must have machines running the Anniversary Update edition of Windows 10. Anything above that is of course supported and welcomed, but this is the minimum requirement from an OS standpoint.
